La universidad (llamada en 1817, en homenaje a sus fundadores, la "Universidad Jaguelónica") floreció de nuevo en la 2.ª mitad del siglo XIX, cuando venían aquí personas de todas las zonas de la antigua Polonia (que en aquel entonces se encontraban anexionadas a los países vecinos) para poder estudiar en su lengua materna.
