Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College was an American circus school which trained around 1,400 clowns in the "Ringling style" from its founding in 1968 until its closure in 1997.

Clown College (1968-97) was created in 1968 by Irvin Feld, then co-owner of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, with help from former Ringling clown and author/illustrator Bill Ballantine, who became Clown College's second Dean.

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus launched a clown college in the Florida beach destination in 1967, and gave the world a new generation of entertainers. Sarasota County has long been synonymous with the circus and the art of clowning.
In 1968, with the craft of clowning seemingly neglected and with many of the clowns in their 50s, he established the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. Circus Williams, a circus in Europe was purchased for $2 million just to have its star animal trainer, Gunther Gebel-Williams, for the core of his revamped circus.
