Early life and education. Paul Matisse is the son of New York gallery owner Pierre Matisse, (the youngest son of painter Henri Matisse ), and Alexina Sattler.
Paul Matisse is an artist whose work incorporates elements of mechanical design and invention. He graduated from Harvard University in 1954 and studied at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He worked briefly with Buckminster Fuller and then for Arthur D. Little, Inc. in Cambridge.

The word Kalliroscope comes from the Greek words “Kalos,” “Rheos,” and “Skopien,” meaning Beauty, Flow and Seeing. A Kalliroscope is an object in which to see a beautiful current. It was invented by Paul Matisse in 1966, patented in 1968, and sold throughout the world since then.
