A Fickle Sonance is an album by American saxophonist Jackie McLean recorded in 1961 and released on the Blue Note label. It features McLean in a quintet with trumpeter Tommy Turrentine , pianist Sonny Clark , bassist Butch Warren and drummer Billy Higgins .

By calling his album and title track thus, McLean reveals to be a conscious commentator of the dual nature of both his own sound and style and jazz in general, which is all about surprise.
Thomas Walter Turrentine, Jr. (April 22, 1928 – May 13, 1997) was a swing and hard bop trumpeter and composer who was active between the 1940s and the 1960s. He rarely worked as a bandleader, and was known for his work as a sideman with drummer Max Roach and his younger brother, the saxophonist Stanley Turrentine .

10 de abr. de 2020 · Everyone shines on this record - Tommy Turrentine is superb on the trumpet and Jackie of course is as usual excellent. The piano is really well recorded for a Blue Note and elegantly played by Sonny Clark.
