In 1993, he formed Brian Free & Assurance (BFA). Christian music has always been Brian’s first love, and fans, along with the Christian music industry, have honored him and the group with multiple Dove Awards, Brian’s 2017 GMA Hall of Fame induction, as well as a Grammy nomination in 2024.
Brian Free & Assurance is a Southern gospel group. Brian Free formed the group in 1993 after performing with the Gold City Quartet from 1982-1994. Since being formed, the group has released multiple albums.

Bill Shivers (lead) resides in Temple, Georgia with his wife Michelle and their three children, Brittany, Sara and Brent. From Sandersville, Georgia, Mike Rogers (baritone) and his wife Bekki have two daughters, Coraline and Everlee.
In 1998, Free suspended the group and began traveling as a soloist. In 2001, he revived Assurance with Bill Shivers (lead), Craig Singletary (baritone) and Bill Lawrence (bass). His son Ricky Free also joined the group in 2001 to play drums.
