The band confirmed via Twitter that bassist Archis Tiku, who had not performed with the band live since the end of the Quicken the Heart tour, had officially retired. His live replacement, Paul Rafferty, was confirmed to be the session bassist on Risk to Exist , although he is not an official member of the band.

Vocalist Paul Smith, guitarist Duncan Lloyd, keyboardist Lukas Wooler, drummer Tom English, and bassist Archis Tiku formed Maximo Park in Newcastle in 2001, naming their group after a park in Havana where revolutionaries once gathered. If not pop rock revolutionaries, at least Maximo Park sounds different than a lot of the rank and file.
