The band was formed in Quinton, Birmingham by singer (and then guitarist) Phil Etheridge and bassist Jon Watkin after the pair studied music technology together at Kidderminster College. They originally performed in and around Birmingham under the name "Neon Twang".
27 de dic. de 2023 · The Twang's Jon Watkin has paid tribute to his wife on social media following her death earlier this year. Jon shared a post on December 27 which featured a picture of his wife and their family as he confirmed she died in April 2023 after a two-year battle with bowel cancer.

1 de nov. de 2019 · A big surprise on ‘If Confronted Just Go Mad’ is ‘Million Miles’, this tune sees bassist and songwriter Jon Watkin take over on main vocal duties for the first recorded time for The Twang. The track gives another direction to The Twang too , similar to the way Oasis had both Liam and Noel.
Jon Watkin, Twang’s bassist, adds: “We’re just having a crack really. You don’t really notice it but maybe it just hasn’t sunk in yet. To us, we’re just doing more and more gigs and everything.”
