John Records Landecker (born March 28, 1947) is an American Top40 / oldies disc jockey best known for his trademark saying "Records truly is my middle name" and creating Boogie Check, Americana Panorama, and satirical songs and bits based on current events such as "Make a Date with the Watergate ", and "Press My Conference".
Legendary Top 40 radio personality John Records Landecker was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His middle name, Records, was his mother’s maiden name and proved to be prophetic. As a boy, he built crystal diode radios in cigar boxes. To this day, he remembers his first real radio — a six transistor AM made by Channel Master.
John Records Landecker is a Chicago radio legend. He's a member of the National Radio Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In May 2020, he was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
John Records Landecker is best known for his tenure as the evening personality at WLS-AM Chicago, a 50,000-watt station reaching audiences in some 40 states. His signature style included incorporating satirical songs and bits based on current events into the program, as well as his trademark saying, “Records truly is my middle name.”
