Peter Nicholls (born 13 February 1959) is the lead singer of the progressive rock band IQ. Nicholls left the band briefly in the late 1980s to form the alternative rock band Niadem's Ghost but returned in 1990.

Peter Douglas Nicholls (8 March 1939 – 6 March 2018) was an Australian literary scholar and critic. He was the creator and a co-editor of The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction with John Clute.
The group was formed in 1981 by guitarist Mike Holmes and keyboard player Martin Orford. They recruited bassist Tim Esau that year, followed by vocalist Peter Nicholls and drummer Paul Cook in 1982, when they released their first cassette album ‘Seven Stories Into Eight’.
From its inception in the early 80’s, IQ has struck a balanced between the more intricate progressive rock sonic arrangements and the often dark and self-reflective words of it’s lead singer, Peter Nicholls.
Peter Nicholls is a scholar of twentieth-century British and American literature, modernism, and poetry. He has published books and essays on Ezra Pound, George Oppen, Mina Loy, and other modernist writers, and is the editor of Textual Practice.
