  1. Severo Jornacion. Website. OfficialSmithereens.com jimbabjak.com. The Smithereens are an American rock band from Carteret, New Jersey. [1] The group formed in 1980 with members Pat DiNizio (vocals & guitar), Jim Babjak (guitar & vocals ), Mike Mesaros (bass guitar & vocals ), and Dennis Diken (drums & percussion).

  2. In 1997, when Mesaros couldn’t make a Smithereens gig in San Diego, Severo Jornacion of Los Angeles was called upon to handle bass duties. Occasional fill-in opportunities followed, and when Mesaros decided to retire from the band, the energetic Jornacion — nicknamed “The Thrilla” — became a full-time member around late 2005/early 2006.

But Mesaros has signed on for four more reunion concerts: They’ll take place later this month in New York, Philadelphia, Falls Church, Va. and Annapolis, Md. Jornacion says he became an instant Smithereens fan in 1986 when a friend loaned him “Especially for You.”
