Fire Shut Up in My Bones is an English-language opera in three acts, with music by Terence Blanchard and libretto by Kasi Lemmons. The opera was first performed at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in 2019, and is based on the 2014 memoir of the same name by Charles M. Blow .
A young man, 20 years old Charles is the central character of the opera, and we view all the action through his eyes. Char’es-Baby The younger version of Charles, 7 years old treble (a child with a soprano range) Sweet, bookish, and small for his age, Char’es-Baby is adored by the adults of his town but picked on by his brothers and other kids.
Terence Oliver Blanchard (born March 13, 1962) is an American trumpeter, pianist and composer. A jazz musician, he has also composed film scores and operas. He started his career in 1982 as a member of the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, then The Jazz Messengers. He has composed more than forty film scores and performed on more than fifty.
