Belle's name means "beautiful" in French (not "beauty" which is said "beauté" in French). Her complete surname in the tale is "La belle enfant" ("The Beautiful Child"). Belle is the second Disney Princess to not be of royal descent, after Cinderella , and Tiana being the third.
