The Fallen Angel (French: L'Ange déchu) is a painting by French artist Alexandre Cabanel. It was painted in 1847, when the artist was 24 years old, and depicts the Devil after his fall from Heaven. The painting is at the Musée Fabre in Montpellier. History and description
Descripción. Es el retrato un ángel expulsado del Cielo por Dios, la tela representa a Lucifer entristecido (manos cruzadas, lágrimas). Análisis. Es una obra romántica, la figura del Mal está pintada como un héroe griego de cuerpo perfecto y con una mirada muy expresiva, mezcla de rabia y desafío contra el que lo ha desterrado.
The fallen angels are named after entities from both Christian and Pagan mythology, such as Moloch, Chemosh, Dagon, Belial, Beelzebub and Satan himself. Following the canonical Christian narrative, Satan convinces other angels to live free from the laws of God, thereupon they are cast out of heaven.

This derivation was adopted as a proper name for an angel who laments the loss of his former beauty. The Christian church fathers – for example Hieronymus, in his Vulgate – translated this as Lucifer. The equation of Lucifer with the fallen angel probably occurred in 1st century Palestinian Judaism.
