This might be a heck of a hot take but in my honest opinion the SMS version of Sonic 1 is a better game than Sonic 1 on the Genesis. Yes on the time of release Sonic 1 on Genesis was revolutionary but said game engine didn't match the level design of more than half of the game while Sonic 1 on the Master System felt more tightly design as it's more restrictive engine fit the design better.
