Hace 5 días · Almost fifty years ago, I attended a New York City Ballet performance of George Balanchine’s Coppélia. Somewhere in the middle of the first act, I decided I wanted to dance. You know the rest of this story. Coppélia is all about the dancing, and the music, and the laughter, colors, costumes, and scenery. It may have the same effect on you as it did on me all those years ago.

Balanchine created it in 1967 as a star vehicle for his top dancers at New York City Ballet, the company he co-founded with Lincoln Kirstein in 1948. While there are no characters in Jewels, the ballet has an incredible nine principal roles.

On April 23, 2024, New York City Ballet opened the Spring ‘24 season with their “All Balanchine” program, comprised of four works from the revered choreographer set to the music of French composers.
3 de may. de 2024 · Finally, the program concluded with another all-white Balanchine tutu ballet, Symphony in C, featuring Megan Fairchild partnered by Joseph Gordon, Sara Mearns partnered by Tyler Angle, Emma Von Enck partnered by Roman Mejia, and Alston Macgill partnered by Harrison Coll. Symphony in C is set to a four-movement piece by George Bizet and premiered on July 28, 1947, for the Paris Opera Ballet.
