Armored Headcrabs are definitely just regular headcrabs infected with some fungus or something that hardens their skin and gives them spikes. It also appears to push their heart out through their mouth, so I don't thing it's a symbiotic relationship.

For my first sketch I thought I'd try a Headcrab Zombie. You should be able to guess who I used as a base. I'll probably move the head farther left, and fix up the leg on the left.
