[note 1] The Great Army appears to have been a coalition of warbands drawn from Scandinavia, Ireland, the Irish Sea region and Continental Europe.

Ubbe is in the same agespan as Ragnars other sons with Aslög; Ivar, Björn, Sigurd, Halvdan, Rognvald while they all fought together and were leaders in the same years. Ragnars and Thoras sons Eric and Agnar were older and born before his children with Aslög.
