Naked Raygun emerged from Chicago's punk rock scene in the early 1980s as a driving force behind its development and growth. Known for their melodic approach to punk and distinctive vocals by frontman Jeff Pezzati, Naked Raygun left an indelible mark on both punk music and Chicago's musical history.

They packed Chicago venues with their unique sound, playing shows with Naked Raygun, The Effigies, Green Day, Jawbreaker, Offspring, ALL, Killing Joke, Rollins Band, Tool, Primus, and many more, but disbanded in 1993.

After playing in many early bands, Albini initially started Big Black in 1981 while still a student at Northwestern University, where he was studying for a degree in journalism, eventually adding guitarist Santiago Durango and bassist Jeff Pezzati, both of Chicago punk band Naked Raygun.
