Hace 4 días · Black guillemots are a little more compact than their cousins – clocking in at 30cm tall, they’re 10cm shorter than common guillemots; they weigh half as much, at only half a kilo; one other difference is that it’s much easier to find black guillemots inshore instead of out at sea.

Hace 3 días · 4) Guillemots. Similar to razorbills, guillemots are also small black and white seabirds. However, their beaks are longer and pointier and lack the distinctive white stripe. Unlike puffins, who nest inside the cliffs, guillemots precariously balance their eggs between their feet right on the narrow cliff ledges.

Hace 6 días · Bempton Cliffs. A Visit to the Bird Reserve. 28/05/24. We set off from Barnsley at 9 o’clock. My daughter in law Claire and the 3 Grandkids Lacey, Max and Lola. It took 2 hours to reach the RSPB centre at Bempton. Because the weather forecast was strong that rain would arrive about 1 o’clock we had to get straight onto the clifftops.

Beyond these the beach is backed by St Bees Golf Club. On St Bees Head there is an RSPB nature reserve which is home to a range of seabirds including: guillemots, kittiwakes, fulmars and razorbills.
