Hace 2 días · Rutland can scarcely be said to have been a county in 1086, when the return for what is called Rutland is entered in the Domesday Book as subsidiary to Nottinghamshire and consisted only of the Hundreds of Alstoe and Martinsley (fn. 4) (including the Soke of Oakham).
Hace 2 días · Sir Francis was sheriff of Rutland in 1614 and 1634 and member of Parliament for the county in 1625. He was sequestered as a royalist and died in 1648. His widow Theodocia begged for a third of her husband's estate in 1652, as she had no jointure, but was only allowed a fifth.
