Perfect for a funeral song. One of my all time favorites from the Prince of Darkness! Miles recorded it in 1974 as a tribute to the passing of Duke Ellington. He Loved Him Madly is a reference to Duke, who used to tell his audiences, “I love you madly.”.

I adapted the title from the way Duke Ellington used to end his shows by saying “We love you madly!” to the audience. The line “Tell me what you say” was a nod to Ray Charles. “A deep blue dream” was an invocation of water—again, the four elements.
