9 de may. de 2024 · Birute Galdikas is a primatologist, conservationist, and educator who is credited with conducting the longest-running longitudinal study by one principal investigator of any wild mammal in the world. Galdikas has dedicated more than half a century to the study of orangutans in Indonesian Borneo.

Fossey embraced her role as a primatologist and founded the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda to study and protect mountain gorillas.
22 de may. de 2024 · When Biruté Mary Galdikas saw her first image of an orangutan in the wild, she was immediately captivated. It haunted her and she found its gaze "almost hypnotic." She moved to Borneo, where she made it her life's mission to study and work to protect these mysterious creatures.

Field studies of the apes were pioneered by primatologist Birutė Galdikas and they have been kept in captive facilities around the world since at least the early 19th century.
