SPOILER. Why Light can't see Ryuk at the end ? Analysis. Episodes 36/37. When Mikami looks at all of them in order to write their name, we see that Light is still owning a Death Note, which should be ones of Ryuk because his life expectancy is not displayed.
Light Yagami kills for many more years, writing criminal names in his Death Note. Eventually, he tells Ryuk to kill him by writing his name in the Death Note. Light says that after so many years of being Kira, he is finally tired of a life of killing others.
