Hace 5 días · There are several species of curlew, including the Eurasian curlew, the Whimbrel, and the Far Eastern curlew. Each species has its unique characteristics and habitat preferences. Curlews are migratory birds. Curlews are known for their impressive migratory journeys.
Hace 1 día · Although the Far Eastern Curlew would appear to be common, it is one of many migratory shorebird species which is declining. A number of factors are contributing to this but the loss of traditional feeding, roosting and nesting habitats are by far the most critical. One of the best places to see the Far Eastern Curlew is in Moreton Bay.

31 de may. de 2024 · This venomous spined fish was photographed by Sean Tagley in knee-deep water across from Poortjies. According to iNaturalist, this has only been recorded as far south/west as Jeffreys Bay (but of course not everything is recorded on iNat). Thanks to Gareth Greenwood for the exchanges around ID for this species.

But sadly, the famously evocative and previously familiar call of the curlew is becoming increasingly rare. The UK’s breeding curlew population has halved in the last 25 years and the species faces a high risk of extinction.
