Gein endured a difficult childhood. His father was an alcoholic, and his mother was verbally abusive toward him.
Reading American psycho almost 30 years after it was released is an interesting experience. I'm currently 350 pages into the book. Because of Patrick Bateman's constant fixation on wearing trendy clothes and having the latest technology in the prose, I have been subconsciously trying to see which aspects of the book aged well.
