The name (Hebrew: “first to Zion”) is derived from a biblical allusion in Isaiah 41:27. The second oldest Jewish village of Palestine (after Petaẖ Tiqwa), Rishon LeẔiyyon was founded in 1882 by Russian-Jewish immigrants.
