The earliest reference to martial arts in the Chinese historical record stems from the Spring and Autumn (BCE 770-476) Period of the Eastern Zhou (BCE 770-221) Dynasty, namely, a reference to a Kung Fu like discipline in the Spring and Autumn Annals.
