Hassan took charge of the Pharaohs after the 2023 AFCON finals and he was in charge of the team’s friendly matches in March with Salah having been excluded from the squad due to injury.

Salah's participation marks his first appearance under the guidance of coach Hossam Hassan. Salah, 31, arrived at the camp on May 27, joining 24 other players, including Gulf striker Mohammed Sherif.
