After serving in the Air Force (1943-1946), he joined Dizzy Gillespie's bebop orchestra and began a lifelong friendship with the trumpeter.

From tossing watermelons and hay bales as a young teen in Mineola, Dr. James Moody went on to help establish a world-class hospital, trauma center, brain and spine institute and air ambulance service in Dallas. He wrote a book about his life which was published last year.

Hace 6 días · Its melody is based on an improvised solo by saxophonist James Moody from his 1949 recording of “I’m in the Mood for Love.” The man to write lyrics was Eddie Jefferson, a master of vocalese, who had started off as a dancer before flourishing into an acclaimed lyricist/vocalist. King Pleasure’s 1954 recording turned the song into an evergreen.

The jailer again refused, saying that Moody was out and he had orders not to open the jail at night. Exasperated, Moody sternly told him, Sir, the person you address is James Moody!
