Hace 4 días · In 1977 American microbiologist Carl Woese, on the basis of analyses of ribosomal RNA, proposed that the prokaryotes, long considered to be a single group of organisms (essentially, the bacteria), actually consist of two separate lineages. Woese called these two lineages the eubacteria and the archaebacteria.
10 de may. de 2024 · Carl Woese made the revolutionary proposal that the essence of translation does not come from the ribosomal proteins but from the ribosomal RNAs (Woese 1970). At that time the ribosome was essentially regarded as a pack of enzymes and the ribosomal RNAs as a mere scaffolding for the proteins, but Woese literally reversed their roles.
