On 27 May 2024, the Council has adopted new rules to reinforce the fight against trafficking in human beings. These rules provide stronger tools for law enforcement and judicial authorities to investigate and prosecute new forms of exploitation, including those that take place online and will ensure a higher level of assistance and support to victims.
The present paper aims at addressing some significant issues relating to criminal proceedings on trafficking in human beings (hereinafter THB), in the light of the European Convention of Human Rights (hereinafter ECHR).
Abstract. Human trafficking and ‘modern slavery’ cover a wide, varied and poorly delineated range of exploitative practices. Yet, conflating different issues risks obscuring important variation. The geographies of trafficking are surprisingly under-researched, particularly quantitatively.
