Hace 4 días · The new pilot was initially planned to be named Mariko (マリコ), an homage to a character by Moyoco Anno, Anno's wife. The director also considered Chizuru (ちづる), in reference to Chizuru Nambara in Combattler V. The name Mari was finally chosen in homage to Mari Sakurano's character in Brave Raideen.

I have only watched NGE by Anno (but all of it) and it seems a bit curious for me that these two men appreciate each other so much. For example, before watching the documentary, I thought Miyazaki would have this kind of relationship with Takahata, but they seem more like kind of "rivals" during their respective productions in 2013.
