She was born November 4, 1958, at Meade, Kansas, the daughter of Howard and Marjorie Mae “Babe” (Howell) Keltner. As a young girl, she attended the Meade schools, graduating from Meade High School in 1976.

Overdubs on the 2007 bonus tracks "Maxine" and "Like a Ship" were credited to "Ayrton Wilbury", a pseudonym for Dhani Harrison .
