Soon, The Mambo Kings get club bookings and Cesar falls in love with a sharp-tongued cigarette girl, Lanna Lake (Cathy Moriarty), and Nestor with the beautiful Delores Fuentes (Maruschka Detmers), who wants to be a teacher. Cesar concentrates on singing and managing the band, while Nestor plays the trumpet and writes songs of love.
With Academy Award-nominee Cathy Moriarty ("Raging Bull") and Desi Arnaz, Jr., who appears as his bandleader father when the brothers guest on "I Love Lucy." Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, and featuring the classic Cuban dance music enjoying a renewed popularity in the U.S., including legendary artists Celia Cruz and Tito Puente, along with Linda Ronstadt and Los Lobos.
