It is not a pleasant place. Many 40k fans view the story of Even Horizon as consistent with this backdrop, and despite it not tracking exactly, point to it as an unintentional prequel to the setting that tells the story of one of mankind's first attempts to travel via the warp. 2. Award.
As noted probably coincidence. A more likely source of partial inspiration for Event Horizon is Disney's (of all people) The Black Hole from '79. Or at least the ending. I'd imagine there's at least a few other black-hole-as-hellgate stories out there as well. -8.
