8 de may. de 2024 · Jackson Pollock, American painter who was a leading exponent of Abstract Expressionism, an art movement known for the free-associative gestures in paint sometimes referred to as ‘action painting.’ Pollock first used his characteristic process of pouring or dripping paint onto a flat canvas in the late 1940s.
Jackson Pollock's mythic reputation rests largely on the artistic breakthrough of his large paintings made from 1947 to 1951, as well as on his dramatic life and death. The fifth and youngest son in a struggling farming family, Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming, and grew up with his four brothers in Arizona and California.

Pollock was expelled from two high schools during his formative years, the second one being Los Angeles Manual Arts School, where he was encouraged to pursue his interest in art.
In 1945, he married the artist Lee Krasner, who became an important influence on his career and on his legacy. Pollock died at the age of 44 in an alcohol-related single-car accident when he was driving. In December 1956, four months after his death, Pollock was given a memorial retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
