The high altitude can affect your body, many people (us included) feel slightly more short of breath or feel that their heart is beating faster (it probably is).

Machu Picchu is a bit lower down, in the saddle of the mountains, and is just under 8,000 feet above sea level. Even though it’s comparatively lower than Cusco, it’s still 50% higher than Denver. That’s really high up there!
