Cambodia As French Protectorate. When it became a French colony in 1863, the Kingdom of Cambodia was a protectorate.The acceptable flag included a white image of Angkor Wat in the center of a red field, encircled by a large blue border.. The Indochinese Federation, governed by France, was established in 1887 and encompassed Cambodia as well as Annam, Tonkin, and Cochinchina.
The flag’s appearance is made up of 2 different colors, the blue color on the top and bottom, and the red color in the center. Moreover, the red stripe is twice as wide as the blue one. Plus, it has a white picture of Angkor Wat, Cambodia's national emblem, in the center. There are only 2 identical national flags that you can find in the world.

The national flag of Cambodia is steeped in symbolism and is an ubiquitous sight throughout the country. It symbolises the unity of the people, the country’s history, and its nationhood.
