Something/Anything? is a landmark in the annals of DIY (do it yourself) recordings, a nearly perfect songbook of pop music that displays remarkable breadth as a songwriter, musician (Todd plays every instrument for most of the double-album set) and producer.
7 de dic. de 2006 · When I bought the Something/Anything LP as a teenager, I made sure to get a copy with the lyric sheet/poster included. I wish the CD set did a better job of preserving these. The poster collage shows Rundgren in studio, but it also shows recording dates on calendar pages that reveal the organization and discipline required for studio production.
By the time Todd Rundgren recorded his third album, Something/Anything?, he had already garnered quite a list of accomplishments.His tenure with the Philadelphia-based band the Nazz helped establish his skills as a solid songwriter and a decidedly competent rocker, making him a prime architect in the newly emerging genre of power pop at the same time.
