Berthe Morisot (Bourges, 14 de enero de 1841-París, 2 de marzo de 1895) fue una pintora impresionista francesa. Nacida en el seno de una familia burguesa, fue precisamente su familia quien animó a Berthe y a su hermana Edma a iniciarse en el arte. Morisot demostró las posibilidades de las mujeres en las artes a fines del siglo XIX.

Berthe Marie Pauline Morisot (French: [bɛʁt mɔʁizo]; January 14, 1841 – March 2, 1895) was a French painter and a member of the circle of painters in Paris who became known as the Impressionists. In 1864, Morisot exhibited for the first time in the highly esteemed Salon de Paris.
Painted in 1885, The Cage typifies Berthe Morisot’s mature style, pushing the boundaries of Impressionism. About 1880, Morisot, Edouard Manet, and Eva Gonzalès began experimenting with painting on unprimed canvas. The texture of the heavy woven fabric affected Morisot’s paint application, which became increasingly loose and sketchy.
