Mission Statement. The Chogyam Trungpa Institute was founded at Naropa University in 2017 to make the teachings of Chögyam Trungpa widely available in order to foster wisdom and compassion. We facilitate the study, understanding, and application of these teachings through expanded access, training, and education.
In The Heart of the Buddha, Chögyam Trungpa presents the basic teachings of Buddhism as they relate to everyday life. The book is divided into three parts. In “Personal Journey,” he discusses the open, inquisitive, and good-humored qualities of the “heart of the Buddha,” an “enlightened gene” that everyone possesses.

Chögyam Trungpa also invited other teachers, including His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa -head of the Kagyü lineage - to come to the West and offer teachings. It was also during this period that Chögyam Trungpa founded Vajradhatu (headquartered in Boulder, Colorado), the umbrella organization for the many centres that were springing up throughout the world under his direction.
