His ancestors were from Afghanistan’s province Heart. A few days after Latif’s birth, his father left his native village and started living in Kotri.
1 de jun. de 2003 · Shah Abdul Latif, a great scholar, saint and spiritual poet, was born in Hala Haveli near the Khatiyan village of Hyderabad District, Sindh in 1689. His ancestral roots lay in Afghanistan. It is said that the Shah’s father, Syed Habib Shah, had migrated from Matyaru, his ancestral home in Afghanistan to Bhainpur in Sindh, in order to gain spiritual contact with Bilawal, a local pious man.

While a sur is understood to be the way a particular raga or scale is sung, in the Risalo, the sur s are mostly named after the theme that the majority of the verses deal with.
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (1689-1752) was a Sindhi Sufi scholar, mystic, saint, poet, philosopher, tourist and musician. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest poets of the world, who narrated his message for mankind in Sindhi language. His collected poems are assembled in the compilation well known as “Shah Jo Risalo”.
