Seger wurde 1945 in Detroit als Sohn eines Fabrikarbeiters geboren, der musizierte und Mitglied einer Band war. So kam er schon früh mit den Instrumenten seines Vaters, Klarinette, Gitarre und Klavier in Berührung.
