The Police (engl. für ‚die Polizei‘) war eine englische New-Wave-Band, die von 1979 bis 1983 ihre Erfolge hatte. Sie gilt als eine der erfolgreichsten Rockformationen des New Wave. Anfangs von Punk und Reggae inspiriert, experimentierte das Trio später auch mit Elementen des Jazz.

The Police (IPA: [ðə pəˈliːs]) sono stati un gruppo musicale britannico formatosi a Londra nel 1977 intorno alla figura di Sting.La formazione con la quale i Police raggiunsero il successo internazionale fu quella composta dallo stesso Sting, autore di gran parte dei brani del gruppo, leader vocale e bassista, Andy Summers, chitarrista, e lo statunitense Stewart Copeland, batterista.
