Na het uiteenvallen van Take That in 1996 werd Boyzone de populairste Europese jongensgroep. Het tweede album, A different beat, werd uitgebracht in het najaar van 1996 en verkocht wereldwijd twee miljoen exemplaren. De Bee Gees -cover Words werd een internationale hit en leverde Boyzone zijn eerste nummer 1-hit op in het Verenigd Koninkrijk.
