Gabriel Fauré, né le 12 mai 1845 à Pamiers [2] et mort le 4 novembre 1924 à Paris, est un pianiste, organiste et compositeur français.. Élève de Saint-Saëns et de Gustave Lefèvre à l’École Niedermeyer de Paris, il est d'abord maître de chapelle de l'église de la Madeleine à Paris.Il en assure plus tard les fonctions d'organiste, titulaire du grand orgue.

75 éves korában, 1920-ban vonult nyugállományba a konzervatóriumban. Ugyanebben az évben megkapta a Becsületrend nagykeresztjét, amellyel zenészt ritkán tüntetnek ki. Egészsége megrendült, részben erős dohányzása miatt. Gabriel Fauré tüdőgyulladásban halt meg Párizsban 1924-ben. A gyászünnepség a Madeleine-templomban volt.

4. Gabriel Faure. Fauré became a founding member of the Société Nationale de Musique, formed in February 1871 to promote new French music. Other members included Saint-Saëns, Bizet, Chabrier, Franck and Massenet. Many of Fauré's works were first presented at the Society's concerts.
