Ihre Mutter, deren gesamte Familie 1952 emigrierte, ist Deutsche, geboren in Peez, einem Stadtteil von Rostock.Chalke pflegt den Kontakt zu ihren deutschen Verwandten und besuchte als Kind zweimal wöchentlich die deutsche Schule in ihrer Heimatstadt.
