22 de ene. de 2024 · Bess Houdini held yearly séances on Halloween for ten years after Houdini's death, but Houdini never appeared. In 1936, after a last unsuccessful séance on the roof of the Knickerbocker Hotel, she put out the candle that she had kept burning beside a photograph of Houdini since his death, later (1943) saying, "ten years is long enough to wait for any man."

30 de oct. de 2020 · This was Bess Houdini’s final attempt to contact the spirit of her husband, the master illusionist who had died on Halloween 10 years earlier, and the expectations were high. “The zero hour of the 10th anniversary of our departed friend is fast nearing the end,” began Edward Saint, the séance’s moderator, in a melodramatic flourish.
Bess was initially courted by Dash, but she and Houdini married, with Bess replacing Dash in the act, which became known as "The Houdinis". For the rest of Houdini's performing career, Bess worked as his stage assistant. Signed drawing by Manuel Rosenberg 1927. Houdini's big break came in 1899 when he met manager Martin Beck in St. Paul, Minnesota.

This appeared in The Tacoma Daily Ledger on July 29, 1928. "My husband thought I was clever, and you don't suppose I was going to disillusionize him," Mrs. Houdini said.
28 de dic. de 2023 · Contrary to popular speculation, Bess Houdini did not remarry after Harry’s death. After her husband’s tragic death, Bess opened a tea house in New York and briefly performed a vaudeville act freezing a man in ice. In the 1930s, she settled in Hollywood with her partner Edward Saint and worked to keep Houdini’s memory alive.
