The Doobie Brothers is een Amerikaanse rockband afkomstig uit San Jose, Californië. De kern wordt gevormd door zanger-gitaristen Tom Johnston en Patrick Simmons. De band is vooral bekend van hun hits Long Train Running, What a Fool Believes en Listen to the Music. De band heeft wereldwijd meer dan 40 miljoen albums verkocht.
The Doobie Brothers wurden 1969 von Tom Johnston, John Hartman, Skip Spence (ex- Moby Grape) und Gregg Murph in Süd-Kalifornien unter dem Bandnamen Pud gegründet. Gregg Murph verließ bald die Band, als Ersatz kam Dave Shogren. 1970 kam noch Patrick Simmons dazu. Doobie ist eine Slangbezeichnung für einen Zwei-Blatt-Joint.
