Mike successfully auditioned for Vai's band and relocated to Los Angeles. From late 1996 to early 2000, Mangini was the highly regarded drummer of Vai's live ensemble, which also included bassist Philip Bynoe, guitarist Mike Keneally and beginning in 2000, guitarist Dave Weiner.
In 2010, Mike Mangini won the drum seat for the Progressive Rock icons Dream Theater in an audition that was captured in the internet documentary, “The Spirit Carries On.” He has recorded and/or toured with Annihilator, Extreme, Dale Bozzio ’ s Missing Persons, Steve Vai and U.K. Mike also simultaneously has been involved with education in some way, shape or form.

Biographie. Mike Mangini commença la batterie à l'âge de cinq ans et, à neuf ans, était déjà capable d'imiter les performances de Buddy Rich, à raison de six à dix heures d'entraînement par jour.
